When addiction affects more than one person

You notice that someone close to you is changing. They start lying, hiding things, disappearing, asking for money. They promise it was the last time, and then it all happens again.

You don’t have to cope alone

What is happening

Addiction affects the whole family

You notice that someone close to you is changing. They start lying, hiding things, disappearing, asking for money. They promise it was the last time, and then it all happens again.

You try to talk, you get angry, you plead, you threaten, you forgive. And once again you hope that this time things will be different.

Addiction destroys more than the life of the person themselves. It affects the whole family.

And if you find yourself in this situation, it is important to know: you don’t have to deal with it alone.

Six signs

How to tell that a person needs help?

Addiction does not always look the way it is shown in films. Sometimes a person keeps working, seeing friends and outwardly living their usual life. But all the while they are losing more and more control over their use.

It is worth paying attention if the person:

  1. Keeps promising to quit but goes back to using
  2. Hides how much they use and lies about their condition
  3. Borrows money, gets into debt, sells belongings
  4. Drifts away from the family, loses interest in work, studies and former hobbies
  5. Becomes aggressive, withdrawn or unpredictable
  6. Keeps using even when it already leads to serious problems

You don’t have to wait until the person loses their job, family or health. The sooner you seek professional help, the sooner you can work out what to do next.
